YWCA GC LCBI Building Bridges_28 FEB 26

IMPORTANT NOTES

YWCA GC Lowcountry Building Institute (LCBI) Building Bridges workshops are designed to help participants identify and work through stereotypes, heal from the scars of internalized oppression, and reclaim pride in their background while building bridges with others. Activities also include sharing personal stories of discrimination and learning effective ways to intervene when confronted with prejudicial jokes, remarks, and slurs. LCBI creates communities in which everyone wants to belong.

This one-day workshop, led by certified facilitators, consists of a series of incremental, experiential activities that help participants to:

• Celebrate their similarities and differences

• Recognize the misinformation they have learned about various groups, including their own

• Identify and begin to heal from internalized oppression

• Claim pride in group identity

• Understand the personal impact of discrimination and mistreatment through the telling of stories

• Learn hands-on tools for dealing effectively with prejudicial jokes, remarks, and slurs

Attendees are asked to bring their own beverages, snacks, and lunch. There are restaurants near Burke High School as well to grab a quick bite for lunch.
